Position Summary:
The Development Officer in concert with the CEO and the Board will be responsible for raising the needed financial resources for annual operations of Compass Regional Hospice (Compass). The Development Officer will be responsible for all aspects of philanthropy including, but not limited to annual giving campaigns, planned-giving, major gifts, and event planning. Works with Compass’ marketing team to coordinate the organization’s internal and external marketing strategy to ensure a consistent branding message.
Responsibilities & Functions
Development Leadership (Major Gifts, Planned Giving, & Annual Giving):
- Develop the Comprehensive Philanthropy Plan.
- Prepare the necessary annual budget to execute the plan.
- Work with the CEO to secure board involvement in raising operating funds.
- Cultivate donors through one-on-one participation.
- Facilitates calls on donors and prospects by board members and other volunteers.
- Direct all grant and stewardship correspondence.
- Participate in planning and executing all direct mail appeals.
- Oversee the donor software system including:
- Generating all development reports.
- Utilizes the data for effective management of development activities.
- Supervise staff responsible for data entry, donor input and management.
- Support campaigns and other giving to Compass through personal gifts as well as solicitations.
Events, Public Relations, & Community Outreach:
- Ensure fundraising efforts conform to agency mission and strategic plan.
- Organize and oversee the fundraising events throughout the year.
- Work with Outreach/Communication Coordinators on external public relations and media relations.
- Serve as a member with community groups.
- Assists the CEO in organizing and evaluating fundraising activities.
- Delivers professional presentations to groups of various sizes, ages, and diversities.
- Works evenings/weekends for meetings, events and presentation requests as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in philanthropy, communications, business administration, non-profit management, or other related field of study. Equivalent in work experience accepted.
- 3 years of experience in development with a non-profit organization or sales/marketing with a for-profit company preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and other Windows application software programs.
- Proficiency in desktop publishing software for design, layout, and production of print materials.
- 2 years of experience with positive media relations preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge or Donor Perfect preferred.
- Ability to deliver professional presentations to diverse audiences.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Schedule: This is a full-time position working 32 hours/week. This position will require working hours in the evenings and weekends.
